FAQ

FAQ

Where is it?

PMBOK Cafe can be conducted anywhere. The first Cafe's were held in Tokyo, Japan in conjuction with PMI-Japan. The facillited workshop was the first workshop in English in conjuction with PMI-Japan. Participant review and feedback was extremely positive. The workshop promotes joining PMI chapters, and allows people to make good connections with local chapters and offers a chance to engage people who may not have had an opportunity to earn PDU's in English. Do you have any feedback?

Yes, please look at our blog. For example "Impressions of PMBOK Cafe" from Rajeev Supekar  P.Eng and PMP with 25 years of Global Mega Project Experience.

Here, participants come from a variety of background, many nationalities and various age group and all gender. When they arrive, there is a sense of unfamiliarity, barrier among them. But it is torn down as the first session progresses. And by the end of second day, many feel sad to part with their team members!

Who should attend?

PMBOK Cafe is for the Managers who are involved in global project management.  The workshop will be conducted in English.  Perhaps, some ideas may be difficult to express in English and native languages may be used.  The workshop assumes that people have experience with Project Management and are familiar with the PMBOK guide.  The workshop is not a fundamental class, and the fundamental experience is required for peer discussion and participation.

What will I learn?

Participants will learn how the PMBOK Guide Fourth Edition manages scope and collects requirements.  How to manage, innovate and create new ideas.  About social networks, reputation management, influencing in regards to leadership.

When is it?

PMBOK Cafe has workshops scheduled in Japan Summer and Fall 2010. Please see our schedule.

Are the workshops different?

Each work shop explores different knowledge areas of the PMBOK Guide Fourth Edition.  The processes to collect requirements are similar.  Project life cycles often have the repeatable planning phases.  Analyzing stakeholder requirements is similar for every phase in the project.  People who participate in multiple workshops will gain a deeper knowledge and be able to understand how to use the tools and techniques better.

What do I need to attend?

The most important thing to bring is a positive attitude.  Be ready to learn different approaches.  The workshop will use analog and digital methods.  Participants can bring mobile phones and their own laptops.  Some workstations are provided for the digital content.

Will I get the PDU?

Yes, depending on the duration of the workshop you will earn the Professional Development Units.

Who has been participating?

Workshops will have people from Japanese Blue Chip Corporations and Small Businesses.  We expect that, most participants will be senior management, English as Second Language project managers.  We do expect to have some non-Japanese participants.  Socializing and networking is encouraged.  We hope that participants will build relationships that will continue after the workshop.  It will be a great opportunity for non-Japanese project managers to work with and learn from senior Japanese project managers.

Cafe's have been a melting pot of many cultures; Japanese, American, Korean, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and India. Cafe's are the perfect place to discuss the differences in global project management. Professional Project Managers can offer insights why particular Organizational cultures use different approaches to perform Project Management.

Multi-Learning Environments

Project Managers need to learn hard and soft skills. PMBOK Cafe workshops are designed to provide people with the opportunity to learn how to perform critical soft skill project management while learning about the hard skills from the revised PMBOK® Guide Fourth Edition.

Today, organizations need Good Project Management to bring about complex change. Global business is challenging and the competitive risks are very high. In spite of cultural differences, we have to find a way to join hands and work together as a team.
