Skills for Global Projects in 2012

What are the skills that Global Projects managers will require to perform in 2012. What are the critical skills we will need in 2012? It is difficult to decide what the future skill we will need because we are all different. All Project managers want to  have better projects and careers. The Problem is we have to keep researching changes in the environment, constraints and make our goals tangible.

The project manager needs to have a plan for personal growth. This means that they have to analyze their personal weaknesses, know their environment and the constraints, get feedback and participate in training to grow.

The other difficult aspect of skills we will need in the future is understanding the trends in Global Project management. In the future we feel that sustainability is a key word. Project Mangers will need to improve at measuring intangible things; for example quality, customer happiness, team member happiness, sustainability, CO2 and technology. All of these are complex and changing project Mangers will need to understand the value and the techniques to manage these.

2009 Summer Global Project Managemnt Presentation Communication with no Boundaries

No boundaries for communication on Global Projects

Global business is growing faster, Offshore development, globalization, oversea branches and trading with other countries. Even though now we are using Video Conference, emails, we are not satisfied with those tools. The problems are lack of appropriate tools, different regulations. Our dream is to have a Technology Framework that opens a Door to anywhere(Dokodemo Door). We need to Create some place to share multichannels of information.

Effective Organizations for Global Project Management

Effective Project management on a Global Project requires Self decision making teams. Command and Control limits the productivity of project team members.

We are four PMP’s in Japan. We are the "Organization Team"

We discussed near future project team management.  We call it "Organization TNG"

The problem we face is command and control organizations limit the potential productivity of our team members. The reason is the concept of project is still minor in many organizations. We don't have a good method to make a more dynamic team and Make the team members enthusiastic. Our dream is self-decisions making teams who share goal of project. A self decision-making team is important. How to make a self decision-making team? Share the common goals with your team members. Give the necessary authority to team members. Give up the control and focus on coaching and monitoring.

Technology and Communication on Global Projects

Global Projects are impacted by communication. The problem is that the majority of project managers spend alot of time on communicating but there is not enough information sharing. Global Project Managers need to flatten the organization to improve the communication. How to solve the problem is to introduce more realtime communication tools like Google Wave which can support voice, video data and IT Office tools.
